Assignment # 9:Diary of Loyalist

In this Assignment I will be responding to assignment#9 on Miss Pollock's blog.

Dear Diary,

These past few days have been tough with all the selling of our most valuable goods for when we travel. We have worked so hard just to get this far and I know that no matter what we are not going to back down, we are going to make it to British North America, we will escape from the Patriots and live with peace and freedom.

Just before we started our journey we had to think of where would be our final settlement to start a new life in British north America. We finally decided Nova Scotia, and then we were off. We had started our journey to leave The 13 Colonies and live in British North America were we have the freedom that we deserve.

I just hope that when we get there we can find some land and start our new life without any troubles. I mean just the whole idea of a trip is a wonderful idea and that we can learn a lot from where we travel. But we have to remember that we are not alone but that there are about forty-six thousand others traveling with us and about thirty-four thousand headed to Nova Scotia like us. So to keep the peace mom and dad had told me and my two brothers to be kind and not rude so that we do not start any trouble on our long journey there.

Thursday, August, 4 / 1778

Dear diary,

It has been a few weeks since my last entry but that's only because we have traveled and traveled and had barely anytime to do much at all. We had a lot of fun on our trip and now we are even happier to know that we are in a safe place and that no patriots can boss us around and take away our freedom.

When we had been traveling I happened to notice a lot of what was happening. Like how some of the British North Americans looked at us in either a good or bad way,( I could not tell). Then we all got our fifty acres each as our own land, because that's what every family member got and we began to make our land great for crops and other things like that.

Some of the other British North Americans living there were very nice to us and everyone around, but then some just did not say anything at all. We eventually got to know almost everyone and had made some very nice friends but we also had to think about what we were doing and how we were doing it so that we do not get in any sort of trouble.

What I have pasted into my diary as a remembrance of where I traveled I is a map of British North America so that I will never forget where I have gone and what I have seen in my lifetime, and that I hope someday I can travel to other places for the experience of a wonderful journey.

Well all I can really say is that I hope that me and my family can make a wonderful living here and to hope good things for the future!

Assignment # 8: The Real Riel

Hey viewers!

In this assignment I will be responding to assignment#8 on Miss Pollock's blog. What we have to do in this assignment is write an interview with Louis Riel. So here is my interview.



-Allyson (host): Hello everyone, today on our show we have a very special guest with us who has traveled in a time machine to come and be on our show today. Let's all give a nice round of applause for Louis Riel!

**Audience claps as Louis Riel walks onto the stage.**

-Allyson: Hello there Louis, welcome to the show.

-Louis Riel: Well thank you very much it is so wonderful to be here today.

-Allyson: Well you sound very excited.

-Louis Riel: Oh I am!

-Allyson: Well then now that we know you are excited and ready let's get down to some
questions.

-Louis Riel: Sure that's sound fine.

-Allyson: Okay then here's one question for starters, it say here that you were a "spiritual leader" to the Metis and the Indians, how does that make you feel about your life?

-Louis Riel: Well that makes me feel like I have helped the Metis and Indians through their lives and that I helped them make a difference and it feels good to know that they trusted me as their leader.

-Allyson: What a thoughtful answer. I can see that you put a lot of effort into your life.

-Louis Riel: Yes I can say that I truly did, so any more questions?

-Allyson: Yes, here's one. As they say your trial lasted two weeks, how did you feel when they found you guilty and that you were sentenced to be hanged?

-Louis Riel: Unfortunately I was sentenced to be hanged but even when they found me guilty I was pretty shocked. I mean I have done some good things and some bad things in my lifetime like being banned from the united states and not being the nicest I could be but I have to say being hanged might of been a little to much.

-Allyson: I am so sorry to here that.

-Louis Riel: Oh don't worry about it, whats done is done.

-Allyson: Well here is my last question. It says that you were born in Manitoba, would you of wanted to be born anywhere else?

-Louis Riel: Well I would of liked to of been born in Saskatchewan because that's where my father was born but no i like Manitoba and i am very lucky to even be born.

-Allyson: Well I can say that is a truthful answer and that a lot of quick thought was put in it. Let's all give another round of applause for Louis Riel!

Assignment # 7:Canadian Personalities

Hey readers,

In this entry I will be talking about Canada's personalities because there are many people who inspire us and help us in the world today with everything they have done. In this assignment I will be referring to assignment # 7 on Miss Pollock's Blog, as well as Meet the Personalities.

Questions/Answers:

a.) Which category of Canadian Personalities interested you the most? Did you like the "we inspired", "we founded", "we fought", "we built" or "we governed" section the best? Why?

-The category of Canadian Personalities that I thought interested me the most was the "we inspired", and i chose that one because the people in that group are people that are writers, artists, journalists, educators, photographers, and there is even a cross country skier. They are some very created people and that is why i chose them. some of the people that you will find in this section are Gabrielle Roy, Peter Pitseolak, Mordecai Richler, Herman Smith and Arthur Lismer .

b.) Which personality interested you the most? Why?

-The personality that interested me the most was Arthur Lismer because he was a very creative person as well as an educator. He was a member of the group of seven. He also helped free Canada from its European roots and as he saw the wilderness with new eyes he transformed the way we see Canadian landscapes. Arthur Lismer founded schools for children's art in Montreal and Toronto and eventually he carried his methods and techniques all over Canada and the world.

The reason why I chose Arthur Lismer is because when I read all about him he seemed very interesting and that he had many things happen during his lifetime like being a great artist and succeeding in being a inspired teacher for the arts. I myself also like to draw and paint but not as good as Arthur Lismer I mean he was a member of the group of seven so he must be really good. But I think that we can all reach up to our goals if we just try. To learn more about Arthur Lismer Click here!


c.) In your post, suggest three more influential Canadian personalities that could be added to this site. Why did you choose these people? Which categories would they fit into?


**The website that I used for this section was all about Canadians.Click here to see it.**

-One person that I found that I thought could be added to the the website "Meet the Personalities" was Emily Carr. She was a painter as well as a writer. She was born in 1871 and died in the year 1945. Emily Carr was a very good painter and in 1936 one of her paintings called "Rushing Sea of Undergrowth" had made its way into the Vancouver Art Gallery. But she also wrote so books about her life like when she encountered aboriginals and about her childhood etc. I think that the section Emily Carr would fit in is the "We Inspired" section.

-Another Canadian that I found was Morely Safer. He was a journalist. He was born in 1931 and is still alive today. Morely Safer is now working at CBS News but before that he was working as a reporter for newspapers and wire services in England and Canada. The section that I think Morely Safer would fit into is the "We Fought" section.

-The last Canadian that I thought would fit into the website was Sir Sandford Fleming. He was an Engineer, an inventor of standard timezones and a surveyor. Sir Sandford Fleming was born in 1827 and sadly died in 1915. He first started off in Canada as a surveyor and later on became a railway engineer. The section that I think Sir Sandford Fleming would fit in is the "We Built" section.

**Mystery History-Maker Match-Up.**

d.) Which History-Maker did you have the most in common with? Were you able to figure it out from the clues given? What do you share with that person? What are some things that are different between you and that person?

-The person that I had most in common with was Pierre Elliott Trudeau. He was Canada's fifteenth Prime Minister. He was treated like a rock star when he came into power in 1968. Pierre Elliott Trudeau sadly died in the year 2000 but tens of thousands of people had lined up to see his coffin just lying there in it's state. Some of the things that I have in common with Pierre Elliott Trudeau are:

• We both have siblings.
• We both have nicknames.
• We were both born in Canada.

Here are some of the things that are different between me and Pierre Elliott Trudeau:

• He was a Prime Minister.
• He was known as a "figuratively, a towering national figure who helped define--and redefine--Canada."
• He was big, famous and helped many.

e.) One hundred years from now, (in 2109!) imagine that students are learning about Canadian History Makers and they discover you. What will you be remembered for? How were you a Canadian History Maker? You are using your imagination, so think about some things that you would like to accomplish in your life and imagine that you have all the accomplishments of your life to look back on. Write a short profile of yourself, imagining the contributions you have made to the future of Canada. (Write this as though you've lived your whole life. You may have been a phenomenal athlete, the first black Prime Minister, cured cancer...use your imagination!)

-Allyson Scully was born on 1996-2069. She had been interested in art all her life. As the years passed she got more and more talented from all her hard work and practice that she was one of the bests in the world. Allyson had traveled to many places for competitions and usually came home with an award, she was then inspired by a big sculpture in the middle of Grand Monument Park and decided to sculpt one herself. She had spent hours and days making plans for her big creation when she finally got in when she was walking in the forest one day. She had decided to make her sculpture of the big tree that had lasted for 100 years. It had always been a big deal to everyone in Ottawa and when it was finally gone it would be nice to have something to remind the citizens of it. So Allyson got working, weeks had past and her designs were complete. She then cleared it with city council and they agreed that they would provide her with the supplies so she began working on it the next day. Three months had passed and the sculpture was three quarters done and then when one month later it was finished. Allyson's sculpture was placed right at the front of city hall and Allyson was awarded with an award for her wonderful artwork. Then as the years passed on Allyson was know for her excellence on the sculpture that is the Ottawa's most prize possession.

Assignment #6:Josiah Henson (1789-1883)

Josiah Henson was a born slave from a plantation in Charles County, Maryland,who was born on June 15th 1789. Josiah had worked all his life and early on in his life he was was shown the cruelty and brutality of slavery, as well as he was traded three times before he was even was even at the age of 18 years old. Josiah Henson had saved up $350.00 to purchase his freedom when his master (Amos Riley) told him that the price was changed to $1000.00.

Knowing that he was cheated for his money he and his wife then escaped to north Canada with their four children in 1830. When they arrived Josiah Henson formed a community and taught ex-slaves how to be good farmers. Josiah Henson was an active person until his death, which was in the year 1883 at the age of 94. In the end Josiah Henson was called "the most controversial former slave ever to make his way to freedom and safety in Upper Canada."

Assignment # 5:The Early Settlers

Hello Readers,

As we all know the weather outside is very cold and can give people frostbite in less than 10 minutes if they are not protecting themselves. You know though if we get cold it is not a big deal because we can just go inside a house or a store and warm up, or we have fireplaces,heaters, furnaces and many layers of clothes or blankets. But you know what, you might not remember them but the early settlers (also known as the pioneers) did not have any of those things that I mentioned. Yet they traveled all over Canada with not much of anything but themselves and the people around them. Sure they might of had some food and supplies but not much because most was not invented back then or they did not want to take much with them on their long journey.

The early settlers had to face cold and warm weather while they traveled through Canada and had to rely on the fur trade to keep them warm. Along the way many of the pioneers had died and many have gotten sick but the others kept going, they had to, they were the ones that were looking for freedom and bigger land. They had to trust themselves and the people around them to keep going and never stop.


The pioneers had to face weather and illnesses but also they had to build houses and take care of family. They build their houses from the ground up and they had family members to care about too. If the family would need something to help them like food or wood for fire then they would have to go out and find them as well as sometimes things did not always work out so what happened was maybe it was too cold and they had to go find some fire wood or food but they could not because there might be snow on the ground or it might be to cold to go out and they would have to stay in the houses they had all night or whatever time it took to be able to go and get the stuff they needed. Sometimes they might even of had to just go out and face the cold and get the stuff because they really needed it. But when you look at all this stuff today you think that compared to the pioneers we have a lot more than they do like warm jackets, gloves, mittens and hats so that we can go outside and get what we need.

Some of the reasons why they came to Canada was because they were not allowed the freedom of worship and because the government had taken control over their way of life. Now when I hear something like that it makes me feel bad because we have freedom to do many things that can change the way we live though we have laws and rules too. Also the men were forced into the army and many people had to suffer because they could not afford enough food and supplies to keep them going. As the people tried to earn the money they needed it was much harder than they thought because a lot of the jobs that they had did not pay much back then.

My grandparents came all the way from Austria and they are now living in Toronto. The reason why they came to Canada was to start a new life and to live in a new place. Now we all know that Toronto does not get as much snow as us but yet they still do get some snow but my grandparents lived through it and got on with their lives.

Well what can i say, the pioneers were very strong and lived through very much like all of the different weather and losing members of their crew just to get the freedom they deserve. We should all think about every thing they did and remember that we have it much easier than they did but they were brave and went on through life.

One website that i really liked was saskschools.ca because they had a lot of information and good facts. Also you can check out the Canadian encyclopedia or this one that I found called the life of early pioneers.

Assignment #4:

Hello Viewers,

I have been visiting other peoples blogs and I am going to tell you three that I liked. The first one was Emily's Blog because it had a lot of information and detail like this quote,"First of all, I think by 2109, the world would probably end, due to all the pollution, and global warming, climate change, etc."

I also liked Chongo's Blog because she explained what she thought very well like this point,"Changes in the American and Canadian politics, like a woman for president in the United States."

Another one that I liked was Shukria's Blog because it was filled with information of the future to come with very logical guesses like this one,"To begin with, it might not be as soon as the 22th century but at some point in time our planet will be over populated."

So that is what I think of these blogs. I hope that you enjoy them too!

Assignment #3:History of the Future to come!

A lot of things have happened through the years and some more than others. When 2109 comes there are many things that can happen and many things that will change or be added too. I think that 2109 will be something to think really hard about because as the years go on you can only guess by how the economy changes and how some things will build on to others. So here are some of the things that I think could happen in 2109.

Some of the things that could be built in the future to help the environment would be cars and transportation that could run off of solar power or other natural resources so that we don't pollute our environment with fumes and gasses. Also there could be many other electronics that would be able to run off of natural resources so that we can save some of the other electric power for things that really need it.

There might also be new species out there roaming around that might be good to our environment or there could be ones that can harm our environment or the humans in it. Also there could be a lot of new germs and viruses in the air, but you can't exactly be sure. I hope that when 2109 comes there will be a cure for all diseases and so that no one will have to suffer anymore.

When we look at the way some of our structures are built, some just look the same but others can look very different from others, and I think that when 2109 comes some structures might be the most fantastic and huge ones yet. But we have to think, will we have enough materials or will we find new materials that are even better than the ones that we have now.

In some places in the world war is going on, and then some other places don't have much of anything like clear water and medicine to help them when they need it and enough food to last them through the day. I wish that when 2109 comes around most places will not have to suffer anymore and that they will have everything they need and have relationships with other places so that they can trade large items that maybe some places don't have and that world war will end for good and that the world can just get along.

Between 1509 to 1909 there was not much technology and most people probably didn't think that some of the stuff that we have rite now would of happened. But scientists experimented and tested many things just to get the technology and computers that we have today. There are many different computers and electronics in the world and I think that by 2109 there will be many more because as more and more people experiment more opportunities open up and many things can happen.

When 2109 comes around it will be a very different place because the world would of had time to change it's ways and learn from the other places on doing things differently and i hope that they can all agree on keeping the earth clean and stopping global warming.
